1) Build Confidence One of the biggest reasons why a lot of people struggle to achieve the changes they're hoping for from the gym is due to a lack of confidence in stepping into the gym environment. A lot of my clients first came to me without a clue of what to do in the gym & felt intimidated stepping into it. Through regular personal training sessions they learn how to perform exercises both safely & correctly, creating a feeling of empowerment & autonomy (which is central to confidence). I'm also very conscious of explaining the ‘why’ to my clients, so that they’re confident in taking control of their training, diet, & lifestyle for the long-term. Lastly, through embracing the challenge of training, you prove to yourself that you're the type of person who can do hard things. This evidence through action is what creates real confidence. 2) A Personalised Approach No two people are the same. It therefore makes zero sense for your approach to your training & lifestyle to be the exact same as someone elses! As a personal trainer it's my responsibility to learn about you; your lifestyle, goals, limitations, preferences, and then adjust our approach to suit your want & needs. For example, if you have a specific training-goal or a niggling injury that you're looking to overcome, your training program will be personalised to meet your specific needs. 3) Accountability & Support The people who achieve real success - in any aspect of life - are the people who are able to remain consistent with their actions. And the best way to create consistency is by having accountability. Working with a personal trainer is one of the most powerful ways to create accountability. By doing so you're making a commitment to show up at the gym at an agreed upon time & day each week. This clearly defined commitment significantly reduces the chances of you deciding to opt-out - especially on those days when you're just not feeling it! 4) An Opportunity for Self-Care We all need to be seen & heard.. yet so many of us don’t schedule in time for ourselves to do so! Your personal training sessions are an opportunity to simply be yourself & share what’s been going in your life. All of my clients know full-well that I’m there to support them along their journey. If ever they're struggling with something - be it in the realm of health & fitness or more to do with their personal life - I'm there to listen, without judgement, & provide whatever feedback or advice I deem appropriate (if needed!). I’d be lying if I said I hadn't heard “this is a bit like a therapy session” more than once!! 5) Connection If there's one thing lockdown life ought to have taught us, it's the valuable role that relationships play in our lives. I value each of the people I work with first & foremost as human beings. What I love about my role as a personal trainer is having the opportunity to get to know each of my clients on a deeper level & build meaningful connection that goes beyond the surface level!
