Something that I think’s super important to regularly remind yourself of is this: Stop placing your happiness/contentment at some point in the future. For s long as you live under the illusion that your happiness is 'out there' to be found, you’re reinforcing the idea false belief that it can’t be experienced, right here, right now. You don't have to be a genius to work out that it's hardly a recipe for success, is it? Now I’m not saying that there aren’t difficult circumstances. Some people are born in to ridiculously horrific situations. But for the majority - and probably for you reading this - internal suffering is created simply by believing that happiness only exists in the future. You outline conditions for it & tell yourself that until they’re met, you’ll just have to be discontent. But here’s the truth of it all: happiness can only ever be experienced right now. When’s the last time you experienced something in the future? It’s literally impossible. Anytime you experience anything, you experience it right now. Read that again. So, see if you can claim your happiness today. Let go of the “I’ll be happy when..” narrative you tell yourself. And just be content with life as it is. That doesn't mean you have to sacrifice all desire to grow, build, & improve; it's good to want to do these things! It just means stop viewing external outcomes or things as the means to true joy. Because it can only be sourced from within. |
